TRANSITIONS

Today i started to experiment with transitions. The screenshot shows the last few seconds of my timeline where i will be using cross dissolve and fade out - the effect of this will make a smoother run in my video as i have used jump cut and straight cut throughout the video so far. However, as the track comes to a close the mood becomes calmer and so the cross dissolve gives a soft and calm effect to the end of my music video.

AUDIENCE RESEARCH

I have created a questionnaire which i have handed out to 60 people aged between 15 and 20 (because this is the age range most likely to watch my video. Here is a copy of my questionnaire:

Feedback

1. My questionnaire was given to 43 females and 17 males in an opportunity sample.

2. Indie - 20
    Rock - 10
    Pop - 28
    Metal - 2
This shows Pop as the most popular genre of music and Indie coming in second, this is positive feedback for me as my genre is Indie/Rock and these genres prove quite popular.

3. Narrative - 31
    Performance - 22
    Random (Concept/Montage) - 7
This confirms that a strong narrative in a music video will make it more attractive to viewers as it has the repeatability factor.

4. Romantic - 20
    Personal - 11
    Family - 19
    Work - 10
As most music videos contain a romantic storyline i am surprised that family issues are a close second, however this is good for me as it means a lot of people will be interested in my video.

5. Youtube - 20
    Social Networking - 5
    Television - 15
    iTunes - 30
This gives me a good idea of who to use as distributors of my video.

6. Yes - 35
    No - 15
    Who is he? - 10
Ben Howard is a 2013 breakthrough act and it is therefore no shock that some people still dont know him but the important thing to note is that the majority of votes like my artist so my video will be popular.

7. Yes - 55
    No - 5
It is clear that synchronaised videos with lyrics are more popular and have a bigger effect on the audience and so i will synchronise my imagery with the lyrics and beat of the song.

8. Yes - 45
    No - 15
Music video's have a huge impact on their audience in the 21st century as digital media dominates the web.

EDIT LOG

Okay so i have the majority of my filming done, and have uploaded all my footage on to Final Cut Pro!
I have started off by cutting the clips to the time and length that i need for the song, which i will upload next lesson!
Here is a screenshot of my timeline so far!

I have pretty much got the first 10 seconds in order but this may change depending on the footage i have yet to film.

Until next time!

UPDATE

Unfortunately due to lack of actors i have had to change my storyline!
It turns out i could only find one person to actually commit to being the main character in the video so here is my new pitch, i will be posting a new storyboard soon:

I will have two strands running through my video:

  1. Performance based - The artist singing and effectively commenting on the main narrative.
  2. Narrative based - Teenage girl living in a broken home runs away, leaving a note saying sorry to her parents. She seeks refuge at her old house which is yet to be sold and takes time to reflect on recent events in her life over the next couple of days.

CAST

Rhiannon Eve - The main character

Angus Tookey - The artist
